With the M4-equipped MacBook Pro now out and about, the turn of the MacBook Air should be coming next. And while Apple is currently rumoured to have quite a number of announcements to make early next year, the M4 MacBook Air may see the light of day ahead of them all.
Mark Gurman of Bloomberg makes the claim on X, reiterating that Apple currently have the new entry level iPad models scheduled for spring, with the iPhone SE 4 and new iPad Air model within the same window. But while Gurman did mention that the M4 MacBook Air will be launched earlier, no specific launch window was specified for it.
With large number of products being launched together, Apple likely has a launch event prepared for them. But if the M4 MacBook Air is going to ne unveiled separately from the crowd, chances are it will be done more quietly, as in a press release being posted on its own website or sent directly to the press.
In the same vein, MacRumors reports that Apple has already somewhat confirmed the existence of the M4 MacBook Air models via code in macOS Sequoia 15.2. Or more specifically, the update came with a software file for “Mac16,12” and “Mac16,13”, which the outlet claims to be the upcoming MacBook Air models. Besides the new chip, and perhaps updating the Thunderbolt 3 ports to Thunderbolt 4, nothing else is expected to be different from the existing model.
