While we know that the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 Series is expected to be announced at CES 2025, we’re also getting word that the first card to hit the shelves from the series is the RTX 5080. More specifically, we’re looking at a mid-January launch for it.
Prominent leakster kopite7kimi double-downed on this point, stating that the RTX 5080 should be released first, and not the RTX 5090 as TechPowerUp says. Given their track record with such news, it wouldn’t be a stretch to believe the statement. Further, the RTX 5090 and 5090D are reportedly expected to debut either at the end of January 2025 or mid-February.
It's not ture. RTX 5080 should be released first.

This move is also par for the course with NVIDIA; back when it launched the RTX 30 Series, the GPU maker shipped out the RTX 3080 before the RTX 3090.
To that end, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Jen-Hsun Huang, NVIDIA’s CEO, chose to focus on the RTX 5080 while on stage at CES 2025. At this stage, the RTX 50 Series has been leaked so much, to say nothing of it being outed in the Witcher IV trailer, it’s effectively an open secret.
