The iPhone 16e launched earlier this month and one of the missing features is MagSafe charging. While there was speculation that the lack of MagSafe was due to the phone featuring Apple’s in-house C1 modem, it was quick to deny it. In a discussion with Daring Fireball’s John Gruber, it explained that users wouldn’t use it anyway.
Gruber states that some of Apple’s representatives had come forward to clarify its lack of MagSafe. They chalk it up to what they claim to know about the “targeted audience” of the 16e, which Apple allegedly says “does not use inductive charging at all, and when they do, they might not care that the 16e is stuck with a pokey 7.5W Qi charging speed.”

That statement alone brings up several questions, first of which being who exactly is the targeted audience of the 16e. Another question is who Apple spoke to to reach these conclusions. Gruber clearly did not have these similar questions in mind, stating that Apple knows its targeted audience better than he does.
The iPhone 16e goes on sale in Malaysia on 28 February.
