The Ministry of Transport (MOT) will continue its RM499 ceiling fare subsidy for one-way flights from Peninsular Malaysia to Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan during the upcoming Aidilfitri celebration. This was revealed by its minister Anthony Loke during the launch of AirAsia’s Hari Raya Fixed Fare Flights today on 26 February 2025.
Loke said this initiative, which lowers the previous RM599 threshold, ensures affordable air travel. The government will subsidise the difference between the original fare and the RM499 cap, excluding taxes and fees.

“The government remains steadfast in its mission to make air travel more accessible for all Malaysians,” he said. By working closely with key industry players like AirAsia, we are enhancing connectivity, lowering travel costs and ultimately improving the well-being of the rakyat.”
Meanwhile, AirAsia announced over 16,000 seats on more than 90 late-night flights between Johor Bahru or Kuala Lumpur and Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan from 28 March to 5 April 2025. Fixed fares start at RM328 for flights between Kuala Lumpur and several Sarawak destinations, as well as Johor Bahru to Kuching or Sibu, while flights to Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan or Tawau are priced at RM388.

In addition to these fixed-fare flights, AirAsia will operate 287 weekly flights at regular fares to support the government’s festive season travel initiative.
