Earlier in the month, OpenAI announced the Deep Research tool for ChatGPT users, or more specifically, users who are paying for the Pro tier subscription. At the time, the company said that there were plans to bring the feature to the customers paying for the Plus, Team and Enterprise subscriptions as well. Special mention was made for the Plus tier, with the rollout happening as soon as within the month.
As it turns out, OpenAI has now rolled out Deep Research for all paying tiers instead of just one additional tier, which includes Edu users as well. The announcement was made via the company’s official X account, with a few follow-up posts saying that additional improvements were made. The short list includes the ability for the tool to embed images with citations in the output, as well as being better at understanding and referencing uploaded files.
For users of the other subscription plans being granted access to Deep Research, OpenAI has limited them to only 10 queries a month. Meanwhile, Pro users who previously got 100 users of the feature a month got a slight bump up to 120 a month. So it still pays, no pun intended, to spend US$200 (~RM885) on the monthly if you foresee yourself making extensive use of the feature.
At the time of the initial announcement, OpenAI said that Deep Research in ChatGPT is “very compute intensive” when it mentioned its timeline of expanding the feature to other paying customers beyond Pro users. No mention of free users, whether logged in or otherwise, was mentioned, to it remains to be seen if they will ever be granted access.
