Shopee has announced that ShopeePay, its e-wallet service, will no longer support DuitNow fund transfers via ID type. The discontinuation will be effective on 19 March 2025, after which, users will not be able to perform transfers using mobile numbers, ID numbers, account numbers, passport numbers, or business registration numbers.
While this does mean ShopeePay users will have a more difficult time transferring funds to other banks and e-wallets, it does not mean the platform is becoming a closed-off ecosystem. The e-wallet will still support DuitNow QR transactions, meaning you will still be able to use QR codes to transfer to other people or your other accounts.
The app will also continue to support fund transfers from one ShopeePay account to another. Moreover, users will still be able to receive DuitNow transfers on the Shopee app if you link the app as your DuitNow ID via phone number.
The reason for the discontinuation is quite vague, as its FAQ states that support for DuitNow ID type transfers are being cut off in order for the company to “focus on enhancing our core features and providing a better user experience.”
