Canon has introduced the PowerShot V1, a compact point-and-shoot camera aimed at video content creators. It features a new sensor, a wide-angle zoom lens, and unique shooting modes tailored for vlogging and product demonstrations.
The Powershot V1 debuts a new “moods” feature which customises video aesthetics, and a product demo mode that prioritises autofocus on objects held close. It is also equipped with a cooling system that enables 4K/60p recording for over two hours without overheating.

At its core, the new Canon camera houses a new Type 1.4 sensor, capturing 22.3MP stills at an aspect ratio of 3:2 and up to 30fps via an electronic shutter. When recording 4K video, it uses the full sensor width at 30p, while 60p recording applies a 1.4x crop to manage heat and processing demands.
The camera pairs this sensor with a 16-50mm equivalent f/2.8-4.5 zoom lens and Canon’s Dual Pixel AF II. The latter supports subject tracking, image stabilisation and automatic detection of people, animals, vehicles, and even eyes.
A three-inch vari-angle LCD serves as the only method for framing, as the V1 lacks an electronic viewfinder. Connectivity options include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and USB-C, allowing tethering to a smartphone via the Canon Connect app. It can also function as a plug-and-play USB webcam.
Other features include a three-stop ND filter, a multi-function hot shoe for external accessories, a microphone and headphone jack, HDMI output, and a single SD card slot. However, there’s no built-in flash.

Canon Japan has priced the PowerShot V1 at JPY148,500 (~RM4,389), with an April 2025 release in Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, China and Taiwan. Global availability, including for the Malaysian market, remains unconfirmed.
