Denza, the premium sub-brand of BYD, has launched its premium electric MPV, the D9, for the local market. It comes in two variants, one of which is called the Advanced, and the other the Premium. And as you’d expect, the pricier one of the two comes with all-wheel drive, with the other featuring front-wheel drive instead.
Starting with what the two have in common, both models of the Denza D9 features a 103.6 kWh battery that supports 3-phase 11kW AC charging and up to 166kW DC charging. On the outside, you’ll have a choice of three colour variations, which are Arctic White, Whale Sea Blue and Cosmos Black.
Both trims of the Denza D9 also come with a rich list of features on the inside as well, from the 15.6-inch head unit, a 10.25 inch instrument cluster in front of the steering wheel and a 50W wireless phone charger. Both also get a panoramic sunroof, as well as a fridge with its own touch screen, to really drive home the premium point of the vehicle home.
Then we get to their performance figures, with the Advanced – the front-wheel drive model – featuring 230 kW of power, 360 Nm of torque. Its 0 – 100 km/h time is rated at 9.5 seconds, with an NEDC range of 600km. As for the all-wheel drive Premium model, this outputs 270 kW of power and 479 Nm or torque, with a century sprint time of 6.9 seconds and an NEDC range of 580km.
Being premium electric MPVs, both trims of the Denza D9 come with a long list of safety features, with things like traction and stability control that you’d expect to come as standard in most vehicles. That being said, the Premium model earns its designation in more than just performance, as it also gets some safety features that the Advanced model doesn’t. This includes the likes of driver fatigue monitoring and driver distraction detection, as well as Forward Traffic Crossing (FTC) Alert and FTC Braking.
Of course, this finally brings us to the difference in price between the two. The Denza D9 Advanced has a price of RM259,000, while the Premium model costs RM309,000 instead. If you do bite the bullet, you’ll be glad to know that the brand supports cross-border warranty services across Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.
