The Digital Ministry is set to introduce Malaysia’s first intelligence system to monitor the sale of personal data online, aiming to tackle the growing digital security crisis. Known as the “Threat Intelligence Capacity Support Automation For Personal Data Breach Case Management Project”, the initiative is led by the Personal Data Protection (PDP) Commissioner and is scheduled for launch in the second quarter of this year.
Digital minister Gobind Singh Deo highlighted that the system was developed in response to rising concerns over the sale and transaction of personal data through online shopping platforms and the dark web. He added that the ministry, through the PDP Commissioner’s Office, is actively enhancing enforcement, advocacy efforts and security measures to improve personal data protection in Malaysia.
As part of these efforts, the Digital Ministry will increase inspections of personal data systems under Section 101 of the Personal Data Protection Act 2010, aiming for at least a 30% increase compared to last year. Additionally, online self-assessments will be introduced to promote better compliance among organisations handling personal data.

Gobind revealed that targeted raids will be conducted on entities linked to data breaches and cyber incidents involving companies that process personal data. The ministry also plans to expand its regulatory reach by establishing PDP Commissioner offices across the country, starting with Sabah and Sarawak.
