U Mobile, via its official website, has announced that it has begun rolling out 5G SA (Standalone) access to customers in stages, specifically for selected plans. It operates on a dedicated infrastructure independent of the 4G network, allowing for lower latency, higher and more stable speeds, as well as support for end-to-end Network Slicing capabilities.
According to U Mobile’s FAQ page, plans eligible for 5G SA include U Postpaid 98, U Biz 98, U Premium, and U Platinum. However, access is being rolled out in stages, so some users may not have it yet.

Eligible customers will have the service activated automatically without needing to set up anything or pay additional charges. Unfortunately, there are no plans to introduce it to prepaid users at this time.
The telco adds that 5G SA is compatible with a wide range of 5G-enabled Android devices from Samsung, OPPO, vivo, realme, Xiaomi, ZTE, and iQOO. However, Apple devices currently do not support it, and older Android devices are not compatible.

Regarding Apple devices, U Mobile says it is working with the company to enable the service on existing 5G-compatible models via software updates. In the meantime, iPhone users, as well as those with unsupported Android smartphones or tablets, will continue to have access to the telco’s existing 5G or 4G connectivity without disruption.

As for coverage, U Mobile states that 5G SA is currently available at selected sites nationwide but has not specified any locations. Expansion to more locations is underway, the telco adds.
