Huawei has officially brought over its first ever tri-fold foldable smartphone, the Mate XT, to the Malaysian market. When completely unfolded, it offers a tablet-sized screen that can be folded back up into a regular candy-bar phone that fits in your pocket.
The Mate XT comes with a single large flexible 2232×3184 LTPO OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 1,800 nits that can be transformed into three sizes. In its folded form, the “cover screen” gets a regular 6.4-inch size, but unfold it once, and and it turns into a 7.9-inch display, while a second unfolding reveals the 10.2-inch screen in its entirety.
Under the hood, it runs on the company’s in-house Kirin 9010 chipset paired with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. For connectivity, it supports 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and NFC. Additionally, it gets a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, but for protection, there isn’t any IP rating for dust or water resistance.
On the optics side, the tri-fold phone features a 50MP main camera with OIS and a 10-speed adjustable physical aperture, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, a 12MP telephoto lens with 5.5x optical zoom, and an 8MP selfie shooter housed in the cover screen. Powering it is a surprisingly large 5,600mAh battery with support for 66W wired and 50W wireless charging.
The Huawei Mate XT gets a price tag of RM14,999 and can be pre-ordered through the company’s Shopee and Lazada stores. Those who pre-order will get a free one-year screen protection worth RM3,999.
