If you’re looking for a budget-friendly gaming laptop starting below RM4,000, local brand Illegear has more often than not been the go to. The brand announced the Neo 14 line last year with a starting price fo RM2,999, and this year it has unveiled the Velo 15 for those who prefer the larger screen real estate for the same price point.
Starting from its display, the Illegear Velo 15 sports a 15.6-inch Full HD display with a refresh rate of 144Hz. Inside, it is armed with an AMD Ryzen 7 8845 HS processor as well as a Radeon 780M GPU, a modest option befitting its relatively modest price in today’s laptop market.
Other components on the inside include a starting 8GB of DDR5 RAM, but this can be pushed all the way up to 64GB. It’s a similar story with storage, as the Illegear Velo 15 starts with a 500GB M.2 SSD, but the limit here is two sticks of 2TB each. Additional items on the spec sheet include support for WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, a HDMI 2.1 port, two USB-C ports, two USB-A 3.2 ports, one USB-A 2.0 port and a 2-in-1 3.5mm audio jack.
As mentioned, the Illegear Velo 15 starts from RM2,999, though the official site notes it has having a RM100 discount at the moment, as well as a lower price of RM2,755 if you pay by cash. It’s not immediately available though, as the company is taking pre-orders until sometime in March.
