OPPO’s latest flagship foldable smartphone, the Find N5, is set to debut soon. Thanks to an opportunity provided by the brand, we got a very early look at the device ahead of its launch next week.
Before I begin, bear in mind that OPPO has asked the media not to reveal too much about the Find N5 just yet. So if you’re hoping to learn about its specifications, cameras, features, and so on, I’m afraid you won’t find that in this article. The brand has also requested that we avoid showing the phone’s interface, so please excuse the black screens featured throughout.
Since the phone’s overall functionality is off the cards, all I can talk about is its design. And as advertised, the Find N5 is indeed OPPO’s thinnest foldable yet, especially compared to its predecessors. In its folded form, the device feels like a traditional bar phone in hand – just slightly thicker. When opened up, it’s like holding a thin, miniature tablet.
You’ll also be glad to know that the new titanium hinge keeps both halves of the phone secure in both folded and unfolded forms. It’s reasonably stiff, requiring a bit of effort to open and close, which isn’t a bad thing at all.
Despite its thinner profile, the Find N5 feels sturdy in any form. This is thanks to its strong aluminium frame, combined with the aforementioned hinge. As for creases, yes, the inner display does exhibit one, but only slightly. In fact, it’s barely noticeable most of the time unless you’re actively looking for it.
I’m sure many are wondering how the Find N5 compares to its closest competitor, the Magic V3, at least in terms of form factor. Unfortunately, we don’t have one on hand to make that comparison, but my colleague John Law – who reviewed the HONOR foldable before this – said both devices feel more or less the same in thickness.
That said, OPPO’s device features larger external and internal displays than the competition. Another unique feature is the three-stage alert slider, much like the one featured on the brand’s Find X8 series, which lets you switch between audio, vibrate-only or completely silent modes. No Quick Capture button here though.
Another notable aspect is the phone’s rear panel, which houses a modestly sized circular bump for its triple-camera setup. The Find N5 is available in Cosmic Black or Misty White – the former has a textured matte finish, while the latter has a more marble-like appearance. Personally, I prefer the Cosmic Black option.
That’s all I can share about the Find N5 for now, but it’s shaping up to be a device worth exploring further. OPPO’s new foldable smartphone is set to launch next week on 20 February 2025, where more details – such as local pricing and availability – will be revealed.
