OnePlus has confirmed that a successor to its foldable smartphone, the OnePlus Open, will not be arriving in 2025. The announcement was made via a recently published community note, putting an end to speculation.
In the post, product manager Vale G stated that the company has ‘carefully considered the timing and our next steps in foldable devices’ and ultimately decided not to release a new foldable this year. This comes as a surprise, given that the device had appeared in multiple leaks beforehand.

While the OnePlus Open 2 isn’t happening this year, the company reassured fans that it remains committed to foldable technology. “This is not a step back; it’s a recalibration,” the statement read, emphasising a continued focus on innovation and new experiences.
For existing Open users, the company confirmed that the device will continue receiving regular software and security updates. To recap, the company has promised four years of major Android OS upgrades and five years of security updates for the foldable.

On the flip side, we may still get a glimpse of what could have been when OnePlus’ parent company, OPPO, launches its latest foldable smartphone next week. According to rumours, the Open 2 was supposedly a retooled version of the upcoming Find N5, featuring largely the same specifications and design.
