TNG Digital has announced that its e-wallet, TnG eWallet, can now be used by refugees and asylum seekers in Malaysia. This is thanks to a partnership between the fintech company and the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two entities last year.
According to the company, refugees registered with the international agency may no access several financial services through the TnG eWallet. This includes making payments, reloading their e-wallet balance, receiving and transferring funds, and using the Touch ‘n Go eWallet Visa Card for online and in-store payments as well as ATM withdrawals.

Moreover, UNHCR users of the app will be covered under the same Money-Back Guarantee security policy as Malaysian users, along with the ability to earn GOrewards points through purchases. The partnership for this initiative also includes Visa and PayNet.
The company states that there are over 192,170 refugees and asylum seekers registered with UNHCR in Malaysia as of May 2024. “This partnership will provide refugees with access to financial services that many of us often take for granted – as simple as allowing them to securely save money and participate in the local economy to better care for themselves and their families,” added UNHCR Representative in Malaysia, Louise Aubin.
