The original Garmin Descent G1 was launched locally back in 2022, with a special edition made available a year after. Now, a proper sequel has been announced, with a straightforward name to go with it – the Descent G2.
With the new generation of diving watch comes improvements over what before, including a larger screen, now measuring in at 1.2 inches with a 390 x 390 resolution. As before, it comes with a 10ATM (100m) depth resistance rating. While the company doesn’t say what its battery capacity is specifically, the Garmin Descent G2 is claimed to have a battery life of up to 10 days, or four if its always-on mode is engaged.

On the software side of things, the Garmin Descent G2 tracks the usual health stats like sleep and stress levels, heart rate, as well as detecting potential jet lag. All this data is collected to give you a readiness core for you to determine if you’re in a well enough condition to go for dives.
Then while diving, the Garmin Descent G2 has multiple dive modes to automatically track what you’re doing underwater. You also get an in-dive compass, as well as easily accessible data like time, depth and NDL at a glance.

Of course, the smartwatch functions outside of the water as well. While you’re on dry land, the Garmin Descent G2 functions like any other smartwatch, tracking your other activities like running and cycling, as well as strength training.
The Garmin Descent G2 is priced at RM3,459, but it will only be available for purchase starting 21 February. Incidentally, the brand will also be participating in the International Diving and Resort Tourism Show, happening between 21 and 23 February at Hall 6 of the KL Convention Centre. If you want to give the watch a try before committing the money for it, this is where you need to be.
