Sennheiser has launched a new pair of headphones geared towards audiophiles called the HD 505. They use an open-back design and are wired headphones manufactured in the company’s facility in Tullamore, Ireland.
The open-back headphones are equipped with a custom 120-ohm transducer, which it claims provides a more accurate sound reproduction. Moreover, the brand states that the design allows them to cover a frequency range of 12 to 38,500Hz with less than 0.2% distortion, with angled transducers to mimic near-field loudspeakers for a more expansive soundstage.

Weighing at just 237g, the HD 505’s headband is wrapped in synthetic leather with metal mesh ear cups. They have a detachable 1.8m cable with a standard 3.5mm plug and a 6.3mm adapter that ships with the headphones. For customisability, users can actually swap out the cables and ear pads, meaning an in-line microphone can also be added.
The HD 505 retails at SG$399 (~RM1,318) in Singapore for the copper edition. As of writing, the headphones are still not available on the brand’s Malaysian website.
