Qualcomm has announced the new Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 mid-range chipset for mobile devices. And the company has done so pretty early in the year considering the previous generation was released back in September of last year.
Like the generation before it, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 sits in between its predecessor and the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 somewhat in terms of raw performance figures. That still means between 11% and 29% increase across CPU, GPU and efficiency metrics compared to the previous generation chip. It’s also the first in the series to support INT4 for generative AI uses.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 supports up to 16GB of 3,200 MHz LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage, as well as USB-C 3.1 connectivity for 4K 60Hz external displays with HDR10+. For displays on the device itself, the chip supports Full HD+ up to 144Hz, with Snapdragon Game Super Resolution for upscaling up to 4K. There’s also the Adreno Frame Motion Engine, which is the mobile equivalent of frame generation.

Camera support for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 goes up to 200MP as well as 4K HDR videos, but the latter is still capped at 30fps for the maximum resolution. Connectivity includes 5G, WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4 with aptX Adaptive.
According to the company, realme, Honor and OPPO will be among the first phonemakers to make use of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 4. That said, the announcement stopped short of mentioning specific models and their launch dates, beyond “in the coming months”.
