Chinese automaker BYD has announced plans to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) software from AI startup DeepSeek into its vehicles, according to a report by AFP. The move aligns the company with domestic competitors such as Geely, Great Wall Motors and Leapmotor, which have also embraced AI technology to enhance their automotive offerings.
BYD stated that the integration aims to improve self-driving technology while offering a more personalised user experience. DeepSeek recently gained attention after unveiling a chatbot that reportedly rivals its American counterparts at a significantly lower cost. Industry analysts suggest that BYD’s latest announcement could trigger a new price war in the sector.

In addition to AI integration, BYD revealed plans to expand its advanced self-driving technology to nearly all its vehicles, including budget models. The company confirmed that its “God’s Eye” autonomous driving system will be installed in at least 21 of its vehicles, including the Seagull hatchback which starts at CNY69,800 (~RM42,668).

The system offers features such as remote parking and autonomous highway navigation – capabilities previously limited to higher-end models. BYD founder Wang Chuanfu underscored the importance of autonomous driving technology, asserting that it would become an “indispensable tool like safety belts or airbags” in the near future.

It is not known if BYD plans to also roll out its advanced self-driving technology to its vehicles sold outside of China. To date, the automaker has already launched several EV models in Malaysia, including the Seal sedan, Dolphin hatchback, Atto 3 SUV, M6 MPV, and Sealion 7 SUV.
