HONOR has announced that it is integrating DeepSeek’s R1 model with its in-house AI assistant, YOYO. This new upgrade promises advanced reasoning capabilities and a more customised user experience, but is only available for the brand’s certain smartphones in China.
According to HONOR, YOYO currently supports more than 130 million active monthly users. HONOR hopes to enhance its AI assistant’s logical reasoning and contextual understanding with this upgrade, as these are among DeepSeek-R1’s key strengths.

Starting 8 February 2025, users in China with HONOR smartphones running MagicOS 8.0 or newer are able to access these functions by updating YOYO to version 80.0.1.503. Once they have upgraded YOYO, they can activate it by navigating to the “AI agent” section by swiping up from the bottom of the device. From here, users can select “DeepSeek-R1”.
It is unclear whether the company intends on bringing this feature to the global market or if it will remain exclusive to China. Regardless, this marks Deepseek’s first integration with a smartphone brand. Perhaps we’ll see more of this in the near future?
