A Redditor who goes by the byline EssDee3D recently posted a picture of their NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 Founders Edition on the Linus Tech Tips subreddit, showing that even a major GPU brand sometimes has snafus in the assembly process. In this case, the person purchased an RTX 5080 with the RTX 5090 branding.
Now, before you all start saying “Lucky bas****”, calm your mammary glands. The card itself is still a 5080 FE and the labelling is just a simple mistake. The Redditor confirmed this via a video they posted on YouTube, showing its pedigree on both Windows and GPU-Z. As for how the mistake in branding occurred, the common theory is that because both Founders Edition share the same reference cooler shroud, a mix-up seemed inevitable.

Ultimately, no harm has been done and the Redditor got what they paid for. If nothing else, they now have the distinct privilege of owning a very special version of the RTX 5080. The only issue that could arise is if and when they choose to sell off the card in the future; we can’t imagine that it would anything but a hassle, having to explain to a potential buyer how they aren’t being scammed.
