AirAsia Ride, the e-hailing service under AirAsia, has introduced a new No Show fee of RM15 for those who do not show up for their advance bookings. This is a radical change from its previous policy, where users who miss their bookings would still be charged the full fare.
According to the notice on its app, the fee is to compensate drivers when the passenger does not show up at the scheduled time. However, they are required to wait for a certain period of time and make attempts to contact passengers before they are allowed to make the ride as “No Show”.
The waiting time is not specified but according to its FAQ, drivers will wait 15 minutes from the scheduled pick-up time for airport drop-offs and between 60 to 90 minutes for airport pickups. Users are allowed to cancel their advance booking for free up to 24 hours before the scheduled pick-up time.
The advance booking feature was first introduced back in 2023 in KL, Bangkok, and Bali. It seems that now, it is no longer available in Bangkok, but it has been extended to Chiang Mai. You can make book rides up to seven days in advance. For comparison, Grab currently charges a RM12 scheduling fee for all advance bookings and if you cancel within an hour before your ride or are over 15 minutes late, you will be charged the full fare.
