Leica has officially unveiled its new LUX grip accessory for iPhone, designed to work together with the LUX camera app that was released last June. It is also touted to simulate the feel of a Leica camera and comes with multiple buttons and a control dial.
The Leica LUX grip weighs 120 grams and utilises Apple’s MagSafe, allowing users to simply snap it onto their iPhones. Thanks to the secure magnetic connection, it can also double as a kickstand.
The accessory has a two-stage shutter for precise shots. There’s also two other buttons for changing between shooting modes and other frequently-used functions on the Leica LUX app. A control dial is also there to make it easier to switch between settings like zoom, aperture and shutter speed.
Connectivity-wise, the LUX grip relies on Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to connect to an iPhone. No exact figures were given, but Leica claims it can last for up to 1,000 shots before requiring a recharge via USB-C. The company didn’t specify which iPhone models are compatible, but it is reasonable to assume that the accessory will work with those supporting MagSafe.
On Leica Malaysia’s website, the LUX grip is revealed to be priced at RM1,575 and also includes a year-long premium Leica LUX app subscription. However, a company representative told us that those interested will have to wait until mid March 2025 for its local arrival.
