A recent sales data list showed that AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D was the most popular desktop CPU as of January this year. So popular, in fact, that it accounted for 87% of all Zen5 CPU sales in the country of Germany.
As per the list of the German retailer MindFactory who posted it on X, CPU sales were dominated by AMD Zen5 processors, gobbling up 92.16% of the market or 23,615 units in the country. In comparison, Intel’s Arrow Lake CPUs only sold 2,010 units.

Of the entire Zen5 lineup, the Ryzenh 7 9800X3D sold like hot cakes, selling 8,390 units. As for the rest of the CPUs, 640 units were the 9700X, 250 units of the 9600X, while the high-end 9950X and 9900X sold 230 and 180 units, respectively.
AMD’s Ryzen X3D CPUs have been wildly popular with the DIY PC gaming community, primarily due to the increased gaming performance it offers over the traditional non-X3D processors. The 9800X3D, in particular, sports a second generation 3D V-Cache chiplet design that finally allows user to overclock the processor, a feat that the original 5800X3D and 7800X3D were incapable of.
While MindFactory’s data simply gives us an idea of the health of AMD’s chip sales in Germany, the popularity of the 9800X3D, and AMD’s 3D V-Cache technology for that matter, is still echoed across the globe. And don’t forget, there’s still the 9950X3D and 9900X3D that is expected to launch in March.
