KTMB will be offering free rides under its Komuter rail service in honour of the upcoming Thaipusam celebrations, according to transport minister Anthony Loke. The Klang Valley service will be free of charge for all users on 10 and 11 February 2025 from midnight to 11:59PM using the check-out scanning mechanism at the automatic control gates (ACG).
Moreover, in conjunction with Thaipusam, the Komuter service will run for a full 24 hours each day for four days and three nights from 9 to 12 February, with the Port Klang-Tanjung Malim-Port Klang route operating on a full travel schedule throughout the celebration.
“This initiative is aimed at meeting passenger demand, particularly Hindu devotees, tourists, and members of the public who wish to experience the uniqueness of the Thaipusam celebration at Batu Caves”, said Loke. The minister added that nearly 500,000 passengers are predicted to benefit from the service, a 10% increase from last year, with peak travel expected on 11 February.
The additional train services will involve 494 trips, covering 33 services for the Batu Caves-Pulau Sebang-Batu Caves route, 45 services for the Batu Caves-Port Klang-Batu Caves route, and 28 services for the KL Sentral-Batu Caves-KL Sentral route. It will also include six services for the Batu Caves-Bangi-Batu Caves route as well as three services each for the Batu Caves-Sentul route and the Batu Caves-Subang Jaya route.
For passengers from KL Sentral, the additional train services will be interspersed between existing services starting from 11AM, improving the frequency to every 30 minutes. Additionally, Rapid KL and Rapid Penang will provide free shuttle buses at designated locations on 10 and 11 February.
