Telekom Malaysia (TM), via its official website, has announced that it will no longer offer copper network-based services by February 28, 2025. All Streamyx and Unifi Lite customers are required to switch to the ISP’s fibre-based Unifi Broadband packages as soon as possible if they have not done so already.
“Please note that the copper network in your area will no longer be available starting 28 February 2025,” TM’s statement reads. “This change is part of a plan to upgrade to faster, more reliable fibre internet in line with MCMC’s directive.”
The ISP emphasises that it will no longer resolve any problems involving copper networks after the given date. It also notes that failure to migrate will result in the termination of Unifi Lite/Streamyx service
Customers on legacy plans who wish to upgrade can click the “Migrate Now” button on this web page, or visit their nearest Unifi Store or TM Point to request migration. The ISP adds that customers will maintain their current speed and monthly bill after upgrading.
As for installation speed, TM notes that upgrading to fibre-based Unifi Broadband depends on infrastructure readiness in the area. If fibre infrastructure is already available, most migration requests are completed within 14 business days. However, for locations without existing fibre infrastructure, TM will notify customers regarding the expected readiness date for fibre services. According to its FAQ, building new fibre infrastructure may take longer, ranging from 30 to 180 business days.
This move marks the complete end of TM’s Streamyx era, which utilised copper networks for broadband internet connectivity. The service was first launched in 2001 with connection speeds ranging from 384kbps to 2Mbps.
In 2019, the service was consolidated into a single speed option, offering 8Mbps download and 512kbps upload speeds, and was rebranded as Unifi Lite later that year. The ISP then announced plans in 2022 to completely phase out its legacy copper-based network by 2025.
