Nissan says it will announce the direction of its possible integration with Honda by mid-February, pushing back the plan from the end of January 2025. According to Reuters, this was confirmed by a company spokesperson, who noted that discussions within the Integration Preparatory Committee are still ongoing.
In December, Nissan and Honda stated they aimed to finalise discussions for the potential merger by June, with plans to establish a holding company by August 2026. This development would result in the delisting of both companies’ shares.
Reuters noted that Nissan’s long-term alliance partner, Renault, has indicated it is open to the potential merger. The French automaker holds a 36% stake in Nissan, with 18.7% held through a French trust.
Meanwhile, Mitsubishi Motors, which is 34.01% owned by Nissan, is reportedly considering opting out of the merger. Sources familiar with the matter told Reuters that the company intends to retain its listing on the Tokyo Stock Exchange while continuing its cooperation with both Nissan and Honda.
