In conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year celebration, the Works Ministry has announced a temporary reduction of the speed limit on federal roads across Malaysia from 90km/h to 80km/h. This will take effect starting tomorrow on 28 January until Sunday, 2 February 2025.
Works minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the temporary speed limit reduction is part of a six-day Ops Bersepadu initiative aimed at minimising road accidents during the festive period. Additionally, he has instructed Syarikat Projek Lebuh Raya Utara Selatan (PLUS) to suspend lane widening works along the Sedenak-Kulai route until 3 February to facilitate smoother traffic on highways.
“During this period, road repair and maintenance works that are not critical will also be temporarily halted so as not to disrupt traffic flow,” the works minister said in a statement. “Emergency works, where necessary, will be properly planned, with alternative routes provided to ensure minimal disruption to road users.”
Nanta urged all travellers to prioritise safety by preparing adequately for their journeys by ensuring good health and sufficient rest. Road users are also advised to have their debit card, Touch ‘n Go card, RFID, and e-wallet balances adequately topped up for toll payments.
In case you missed it, the Works Ministry announced a 50% discount at all toll plazas on 27 and 28 January, ahead of the Chinese New Year festivities. This is applicable only to Class One personal vehicles, while toll plazas located at the national borders (namely the Sultan Iskandar Building and the Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza) are exempt from this initiative.
