When the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra got launched officially during its Unpacked event last week, the company confirmed that the S-Pen that came with it won’t have Bluetooth. Now, it looks like the traditional stylus with Bluetooth can still be obtained, but it’s now an optional extra that you’ll have to buy separately.
As an entry about the Galaxy S25 Ultra in its Business Insights blog, Samsung makes mention of the Bluetooth-enabled S-Pen, with “now sold separately” in parenthesis. The section then lists all the things that you could traditionally do with the stylus that you ostensibly couldn’t anymore with the new phone. This includes using it as a remote shutter for the phone’s camera, or using it to advance a slide.
That being said, the official Samsung online store does not list the S-Pen for the Galaxy S25 Ultra with Bluetooth. Instead, you’ll find that the listing includes the basic, Bluetooth-free version, as well as the S-Pen for older devices that did not have a version without Bluetooth anyway.
On one hand, this probably doesn’t matter for those who plan to get the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, but have no intention of making use of the S-Pen anyway. But for enthusiast heavy users of the prior devices who made frequent use of the remote shutter for instance, this would feel like a gut punch, having to top up a purchase that can already go as high as RM7,799. Assuming of course that this becomes available locally to begin with.
