The Works Ministry has announced a 50% discount at all toll plazas in Peninsular Malaysia from 27 to 28 January 2025, ahead of the Chinese New Year holidays next week. This temporary initiative appears to be a stopgap measure, as the government has yet to finalise plans to implement targeted subsidies to replace toll-free travel during festive seasons this year.
Its minister, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, noted that the discount is only applicable to Class One personal vehicles. As with prior initiatives, exempted from this are toll plazas at the national border, namely the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) and the Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza on the Second Route of the Malaysia-Singapore Expressway (LINKEDUA). He added that this initiative would cost the government an estimated RM20.08 million in compensation to the toll concessionaires.
The 50% discount on tolls will apply only on the dates mentioned earlier. More specifically, it is slated to commence from 12.01am on the 27th, and will end at 11.59pm on the 28th.
Road users are advised to plan ahead of their journeys in order to avoid traffic congestions throughout the long holiday. They are also advised to download the MYPLUS-TTA app to get travel time advisory (TTA) suggestions.
