Doom The Dark Ages is officially coming to all gaming platforms this year. As per Bethesda Softwork’s official video trailer and announcement, the game will be available from 15 May onwards.
The Dark Ages is a prequel, putting players back into the boots of the Doom Slayer as he viciously melees through maps and save a city from certain destruction. Unlike the previous two Doom titles, the new game will focus on a “stand and fight” mechanic, instead of dodging and shooting enemies.
The Glory Kill mechanics has also been revamped; Bethesda has removed the individual Sync Kill Mode, opening it up to a more fluid, flowing kill streak system, similar to the scene in the movie 300, where Leonidas is shown killing one Persian after another in, says Hugo Martin, Game Director of The Dark Ages.
The Dark Ages will also be the first of the new Doom series to allow players to pilot their own 30-story Atlan Mech that we first saw in Doom Eternal. Not only that but you’ll also be able to ride on a “medieval-style, Gatling gun-toting, fully cybernetic dragon” in preset parts of the game. These are just a handful of many new things that the game will offer at launch.
In conjunction with its availability date, Bethesda also released the specs requirements for those planning to play The Dark Ages on PC. At minimum, you’ll need an AMD Zen2 or Intel 10th Gen CPU, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Super or AMD Radeon RX 6600, and 16GB of RAM, in order to run the game at Full HD 60 fps.
For those planning on running The Dark Ages at 1440p, the game will require an AMD Zen3 or Intel 12th Gen CPU, either an RTX 3080 or Radeon RX 6800, and 32GB of RAM. As for those that wish to experience the game in 4K ray traced glory, the CPU and RAM requirements remain the same but this time, your GPU will need to be an RTX 4080 or Radeon RX 7900 XTX or better.
