Last year, the government had revealed plans for the expansion of MyDigital ID, allowing it to be used to access just about every government agency platforms. While the convenience is no doubt of benefit to the general public, Comms Minister Fahmi Fadzil says that its use will also help the government save money.
Bernama quotes the minister as saying that “this will simplify user access and also save costs for the government”. He also adds that issues faced include “improving public understanding of the benefits of a single log-in system like MyDigital ID” as well as encouraging agencies to develop apps to make use of this. That being said, no details were shared on the sort of cost savings for the government that the usage of MyDigital ID would entail.
According to the report, Fahmi also says that the latest status of the MyDigital ID implementation will be discussed during the National Council for Digital Economy and Fourth Industrial Revolution Council (MED4IR) that’s happening on 12 February. Last month, prime minister Anwar Ibrahim had expressed frustration over the delay in its implementation, as well as the rollout of the second 5G network.
Also in December, Mohd Mirza Mohamed Noor, CEO of MyDigital ID Sdn Bhd, shared ambitions of it becoming a “super app” for Malaysians. In addition to platforms like MyTNB, PDRM MyBayar and MyJalan, 16 local banks are also in the process of integration, with a live window of within the first quarter of 2025.
