Meta has unveiled plans to expand its Accounts Center functionality by allowing users to integrate their WhatsApp accounts with Facebook, Instagram, and Meta Quest. The new feature, set to roll out over the coming months, aims to provide a more unified experience across Meta’s platforms. Integration with Accounts Center will remain entirely optional and is off by default, giving users the freedom to enable or disable it at any time.
By linking WhatsApp to Accounts Center, users can enjoy enhanced cross-platform functionality like resharing their WhatsApp Status updates to Facebook or Instagram Stories, eliminating the need for duplicate posts across apps. Additionally, the integration will enable single sign-on functionality, allowing users to log back into their WhatsApp accounts more quickly and with fewer steps. Over time, Meta plans to introduce more interconnected features, such as managing avatars, Meta AI stickers, and Imagine Me creations through a centralised platform.
As emphasised by Meta in the supporting pages of the feature on its website, privacy and security will remain as a priority in WhatsApp’s design. Personal messages and calls will continue to be protected by end-to-end encryption, ensuring that neither the company nor its messaging platform can read or listen to them. Meta also confirmed that WhatsApp contact lists will not be shared with its other companies, and data will not be used for advertising purposes.
Instead, information access will be limited to essential uses, such as determining user counts, maintaining safety, or enabling optional cross-platform features. This includes basic account details such as phone numbers, profile pictures, age information, and WhatsApp Status content when shared to Facebook or Instagram Stories. Additionally, usage data, device information, and connection details will be used to support these integrated services.
The new functionality will be appearing in WhatsApp settings or during cross-platform actions like sharing Status updates. Users can access Accounts Center from app settings on the messaging app, Facebook, Messenger or Instagram, where they can manage or remove linked accounts.
