The government has confirmed that highway toll exemptions during festive seasons will no longer be offered this year. According to works minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, a shift towards a more targeted approach to assist the public is currently being reviewed as a replacement.
Speaking at a press conference after officially opening Section 2 of the West Coast Expressway (WCE), he disclosed that the decision was made during a Cabinet meeting last year. Nanta further explained that the move aligns with the government’s policy of implementing targeted subsidies.
Details of the new targeted approach have yet to be revealed. Nanta assured that further information will be announced soon, though he did not provide an exact timeline.
Additionally, the works minister confirmed that there will be no toll-free travel for the upcoming Chinese New Year celebration next week. However, he mentioned that the government will make an announcement should any considerations arise.
