Intel recently announced that it will be spinning off its venture capital and investment arm, and turn it into a standalone company. Appropriately, the company will undergo a name change, while the existing Intel Capital team will move to a new company.
According to Reuters, the blue chipmaker will remain an anchor investor, while standalone operations will begin during the second half of 2025. It describes the separation of the company’s main semiconductor business as a “win-win scenario as it provides the fund with access to new sources of capital to expand its franchise while allowing both companies to continue benefiting from a productive long-term strategic partnership.”
Intel founded its venture capital arm in 1991. Since its inception, the investment arm is said to have invested more than US$20 billion (~RM90.1 billion) in more than 1,800 companies and currently manages investments with an accumulated worth of US$5 billion (~RM22.5 billion).
