Rumours have it that AMD’s next generation graphics architecture will be called UDNA. The architecture is expected to replace the current RDNA architecture, which first launched back in 2019.
The rumour first cropped up on the Chinese tech forum Chiphell, and was posted by forum member zhangzhonghao. According to them, UDNA and its architecture are expected to utilise TSMC’s N3E process. In addition, a new flagship GPU based on said architecture is reportedly in development.
zhangzhonghao’s post went beyond the UDNA, stating that AMD will manufacture Zen6 CCDs using N3E, plus a suggestion that the I/O die will also upgraded to N4C. Further, Zhang claims that AMD is also working on more X3D chips and more specifically, ones for the successor to Strix Halo.
Lastly, they also say that Sony’s next generation PlayStation 6 will run on a custom APU that will include 3D V-Cache memory, although they say that Microsoft has yet to sign off on that feature. If this turns out to be true, though, and given the performance boost we’ve seen with AMD’s X3D processors, there’s little reason to think that it wouldn’t work.
Again, this is merely an unsubstantiated rumours so as always, do take it with a reasonable amount of skepticism.
