Commuters can now use debit and credit cards at token vending machines for the Kajang MRT line. In addition to tapping their cards on the terminal, users can also use alternative methods such as Apple Pay, Samsung Pay and Google Pay, but note that e-wallets are not supported just yet.
However, these payment methods are available only at vending machines installed at the Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) and Bukit Bintang stations as part of a trial phase. In response to our query, a Prasarana representative stated that the system’s rollout is expected to extend to 17 additional stations on the Kajang MRT Line by 23 January 2025.
The move aligns with transport minister Anthony Loke’s directive from 2023, asking all public transport operators to adopt open payment systems as alternatives to Touch ‘n Go. The initiative is projected to cover all Klang Valley rail lines by August 2024.
That said, Prasarana did not mention when it plans to expand the open payment system to the Putrajaya MRT Line. Notably, the Kelana Jaya LRT line trialled MyDebit card terminals at selected stations almost five years ago, but no full implementation followed. Meanwhile, Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) had already begun accepting cashless payments in late November 2023.
