Down at show floor of the Las Vegas Convention Centre (LVCC) during CES 2025, gaming accessory maker, Genki, showed off what was alleged to be a replica the unreleased Nintendo Switch 2. From then on, it was only a matter of time before the world’s most litigious gaming company would make its move, and by jove, it did not disappoint.
According to a report by French journalist Julien Tellouck, Nintendo sent a legal team down to Genki’s booth and began demanding explanations. What it probably didn’t expect was for the accessory maker to staunchly defend their actions so ferociously.
Genki told the Nintendo lawyers that its replica of the Switch 2 was based on leaks and renders that were already on the internet. Further, it stated that because it had not signed any confidentiality agreements, it had no obligations to keep mum or to not even show it.
As you would expect, Nintendo’s legal team weren’t happy with Genki’s reasoning for its replica Switch 2 and at this stage, they’re reportedly looking at taking potential legal action against the accessory maker.
Many who have heard the news are divided about Nintendo’s actions, with some saying that this is a case of corporate overreach, while some are saying that this is par for the course. It feels more of the former for us, especially since the company is expected to formally announce the Switch 2 before the end of March this year.
