One of the surprising announcements from Nintendo last year was the Alarmo, an interactive alarm clock featuring animations and sounds from the company’s popular video games, among other features. For those eager to get their hands on one, good news: the device is now available in Malaysia via local retailer M4G. However, there’s also some bad news.
According to M4G’s online store, the Alarmo will cost you RM899, which is a hefty amount to part with just for an alarm clock. But before you come to terms that it is an official Nintendo product with advanced features such as motion sensors and sleep tracking, note that the recommended retail price for it is actually US$99.99, which translates to approximately RM450.
This is quite the markup, though it does look like M4G is one of the few that are importing the Alarmo to Malaysia at this time. Apart from the retailer, another local store is listing the device on Shopee, but at an even higher price point of RM999. This trend is likely to continue until Nintendo Malaysia or its authorised distributor officially introduces the Alarmo to the local market.
To recap, the Nintendo Alarmo is a digital clock with a 2.8-inch LCD screen, a motion sensor, and is pre-installed with a variety of tunes and sound bytes from Nintendo’s popular video games. Its interface can be customised to display different themes and characters, while the motion sensor enables you to activate Snooze Mode by using hand gestures and also end the alarm altogether by simply getting out of bed. For those who prefer a more traditional approach, on top of the device is a large white-coloured confirm button and dial combo, along with a back button and a notification button.
While it’s tempting for fans, we recommend waiting until more retailers import the device, which could potentially drive prices down. The other alternative is to wait for an official Nintendo Malaysia release, though this seems unlikely for now.
