The Nokia brand of smartphones may be coming to an end as it has been labeled as “discontinued”. According to a report, licence holder HMD Global has relegated Nokia smartphones to a separate category, whereas it used to be grouped together with the company’s own devices.
Moreover, each of the Nokia smartphones that are still listed on site have now all been discontinued and no longer available for purchase. Back in 2016, it was announced that HMD had acquired the rights to the Nokia brand from Microsoft. The deal is set to expire in March 2026, but as of now, there has been no news on whether the former plans to renew the agreement.
This does not come as much of a surprise given that last year, HMD revealed that it would be developing smartphones under its own brand. It has since released several entry-level and modular phones such as the Pulse lineup and the Fusion.
That being said, HMD is still selling feature phones under the Nokia brand, but it is unclear if the company will also let go of this segment of products when its exclusive rights expire. Notably, it has similarly started developing dumb phones under its in-house brand.
