The xAI chatbot Grok was first introduced integrated into X, previously Twitter, during the tail end of 2023, though at the time it was only accessible by Premium subscribers. Considering the amount of time since, its feature set has expanded quite considerably, and more recently, it looks like it’s also getting a standalone iOS app in certain countries.
TechCrunch reports that this is despite its slightly wider availability, it is still in beta. That being the case, it is available for iOS users to download in the US, Australia and India. Trying to access this locally only results in a dialogue box that says it’s not available, at least at the time of writing.
Despite having been launched back in 2023, Grok was only made available to the wider X user base last month. The report also notes that it was around the same time that the standalone iOS app was first tested. In the same vein, a web version is currently bring worked on, and visiting grok.com lands on a page that reads “coming soon”.
All that being said, there’s no word on when Android users will be getting their standalone app on the Google Play Store, or when the iOS availability will be expanded to other regions. For now, if you want to give Grok a try, you can only do so via the X app.
