Support for Android Auto has finally arrived for the 2025 Proton X70, joining Apple CarPlay that was introduced last year. This upgrade makes the SUV the carmaker’s first model to feature both phone mirroring systems, offering seamless integration to their respective features.
Like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto is available to existing 2025 Proton X70 owners via an OTA update. It offers both wireless and cable connectivity, giving users access to features such as Google Maps and much more on the vehicle’s 12.3-inch touchscreen, enhancing in-car connectivity and convenience.
The X70’s infotainment system was designed for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay (or AACP for short) from the outset but the features required certification, causing a delay from its August 2024 launch. Unfortunately, don’t expect either platform to come to Proton’s older cars, as the company previously confirmed that support will only be available to its future models.
Meanwhile, the national automaker’s first electric vehicle, the eMAS7, is slated to receive AACP compatibility later this year. According to Pro-Net (Proton New Energy Technology Sdn Bhd), wireless and wired support for Apple CarPlay will arrive sometime in May – June and August – September respectively, while wireless and wired support for Android Auto will arrive sometime in November – December.
It should also be noted that the EV, as well as future models under the eMAS7 brand, utilises Meizu’s Flyme OS instead of the ATLAS system featured on Proton’s ICE models.
