Xiaomi subsidiary POCO has globally launched its new MediaTek Dimensity equipped X7 smartphone series yesterday evening. Consisting of a base and Pro models, both are now available for pre-order in Malaysia at special early bird prices starting from RM999.
Kicking things off, we have the vanilla POCO X7, which offers a significantly different design, along with an additional camera on its back. Some might argue that this variant might look more advanced than its Pro sibling, though the same can’t be said for its specifications.
The base model offers a curved 6.67-inch AMOLED display with 1.5k resolution, up to 120Hz refresh rate, up to 3,000 nits peak brightness, Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection, and an under-display fingerprint scanner. It also comes with dual speakers as well as IP68 dust and water protection, while colour options include Silver, Green, and Black with Yellow.
Under its hood is a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chipset, paired together with up to 12GB RAM and up to 512GB of storage. Its battery has a 5,110mAh capacity, and supports 45W fast charging via USB-C. Additionally, the base X7 is equipped with the initial version of HyperOS which lacks a majority of generative AI features, while its connectivity support includes 5G, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.4 and NFC. There’s even a built-in IR blaster if you need it.
Imaging-wise, the triple camera setup on the back of the phone consists of a 50MP Sony IMX882 primary with OIS, an 8MP ultra-wide, and a 2MP macro shooter. In front, housed within the punch-hole cutout on the display is a 20MP selfie camera.
Next up is the high-end POCO X7 Pro variant, which offers a slightly larger 6.67-inch AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution, up to 120Hz refresh rate, 3,200 nits peak brightness, an under-display fingerprint scanner, and Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection. Like its sibling, this model also features dual speakers and IP68 dust and water protection. Colour options include Green, Black, and Yellow.
On the inside, the Pro comes equipped with a flagship-tier Dimensity 8400 chipset, along with up to 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage. It has a larger 6,000mAh battery, which supports a faster charging rate of 90W via USB-C. Other features include the more advanced and AI-equipped HyperOS 2 platform, pre-installed Google Gemini, a built-in IR blaster, as well as 5G, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.4 and NFC connectivity.
Unlike the base variant, the POCO X7 Pro only comes with two cameras on its back. This setup consists of the same 50MP Sony IMX882 primary, which is paired together with an 8MP ultra-wide. In front, housed within the cutout on its display is a 20MP selfie snapper.
As mentioned earlier, both POCO X7 phones are now available for pre-order in Malaysia via Xiaomi’s official website. Outside of this, note that you can only pre-order the vanilla model through Lazada, while the Pro is only offered through Shopee.
The base POCO X7 starts from RM999 for the 8GB + 256GB configuration and RM1,199 for the 12GB + 512GB, whereas the Pro starts from RM1,299 for the 8GB + 256GB, RM1,399 for the 12GB + 256GB and RM1,499 for the 12GB + 512GB. Once the early bird promotion ends on 25 January 2025, the aforementioned trims will retail at RM1,199, RM,1399, RM1,499, RM1,599, and RM1,699 respectively.
