Apple is expected to unveil a long-rumoured refresh of the iPhone SE later this year, likely alongside a new iPad model, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. It is said that the phone is reportedly in its testing phase with iOS 18.3 and is anticipated to launch before the company releases iOS 18.4, which is projected for April this year.
The upcoming iPhone SE (also rumoured to be called the iPhone 16E) is suggested to adopt a design similar to the base iPhone 14, featuring a 6.1-inch OLED display, Face ID and a single 48-megapixel rear camera. Additional upgrades may include a USB-C port, a newer A-series chip, and 8GB of RAM to support Apple Intelligence capabilities. Notably, this model could also debut as Apple’s first in-house 5G modem. However, it remains uncertain whether the device will include an Action button, a feature introduced with the brand’s iPhone 15 Pro series.
Yes, the new iPads and iPhone SE replacement are being developed on the iOS 18.3 train – but that doesn’t mean they launch together this month. It means they’ll launch before iOS 18.4, by April if all goes to plan. https://t.co/qaMSH1ImSW

In addition to the iPhone SE, Apple is said to be preparing new iPad models. Speculations point to the release of a new baseline iPad, tentatively called the iPad 11, alongside an updated iPad Air model. The former is expected to feature a newer A-series chip, 8GB of RAM and Apple Intelligence support, which would mark a significant upgrade over the iPad 10.
Since April is still a while away, we’ll have to wait to see whether this is actually accurate. Gurman, who has an excellent track record reporting on Apple’s upcoming plans so far, has also recently shot down a separate rumour which suggests that the iPhone SE could be launching this month.
