Sony Honda Mobility (SHM) has unveiled its inaugural electric vehicle, the Afeela 1, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025 in Las Vegas. The EV will be go on sale in the US this year, available in two variants: Origin and Signature. However, deliveries are only expected to begin by mid-2026 for the Signature and 2027 for the Origin.
The Afeela 1, largely based on last year’s prototype, is a five-seat sedan measuring 4,915 mm in length, with a 3,000 mm wheelbase and a 765-litre cargo capacity. While the Origin features 19-inch wheels, the Signature upgrades to 21-inch wheels. Both trims include advanced suspension systems and a motion management system for enhanced ride comfort and handling.
Powered by a 91 kWh lithium-ion battery, the Afeela 1 delivers 489 PS (483 hp) through a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system. It offers an EPA-estimated range of 483 km (300 miles) and supports DC fast charging up to 150 kW using the North American Charging Standard (NACS), granting access to Tesla’s Supercharger network.
Inside, the cabin is packed with technology, including a Panoramic Screen dashboard, 5G connectivity, over-the-air updates, a digital assistant, Sony-developed active noise cancellation, spatial sound systems, and remote PlayStation 5 gaming support. Features such as automatic power doors, a yoke steering wheel, digital key functionality, rear seat power outlets and sustainable interior materials come standard, while the Signature trim exclusively offers rear entertainment screens and a camera rear-view mirror.
A standout feature of the EV is the Media Bar that’s positioned between the headlamps, which can display information like charging status, digital stickers, and even sports results. SHM envisions this as a signature design element for the Afeela brand.
The Afeela 1 starts at US$89,900 (~RM404,000) for the Origin variant, while the Signature trim begins at US$102,900 (~RM463,000). Availability beyond the US and Japan has yet to be confirmed.
