The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) has rolled out a new security feature on its KWSP mobile app called i-Akaun Secure. This new feature offers a one-tap approval method to authorise online transactions through its app, similar to the security measure taken by banks such as Maybank’s Secure2u or CIMB’s SecureTAC.
To enable it, make sure you go into the KWSP app’s settings and enable push notifications. It will then allow you to approve or reject transactions through your device. For now, the feature is limited to withdrawals from Account 3, also known as Akaun Fleksibel, but EPF says it will be expanded to include other transactions in the future, namely withdrawal applications, registrations, and nominations.
With the feature, you will no longer need to wait for a six-digit code via SMS to authorise transactions through the app. However, you cannot use it to approve online transactions through EPF’s desktop website.
i-Akaun Secure can only be linked to a single device and if you are an existing user of the app, you don’t need to do anything as the process is done automatically. If you lose your phone, you should contact EPF or visit one of its offices to deactivate the feature.
