When we reviewed the Samsung foldables from last year, we found that while the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 did what they did well, there could have been a lot more improvements. This is especially in light of the competition. While there has been hints of improvements for the next generation, a recent report claims that the South Korean tech giant is not making any major changes to this year’s foldables.
This comes from South Korean news site The Elec, in an interview with a representative of China-based Fastprint, a company that makes circuit boards. In it, the rep claims that Samsung looks to instead be keeping its major changes for the foldables of 2026, which will likely be called the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Z Flip8. For this year, the company will be pushing the production of the Galaxy S25 series instead.
While the reason behind the decision was not mentioned, it may have something to do with the lower performance of the 2024 foldables. Leakster @jukanlosreve shares numbers claimed to be sourced from Hana Securities that show the S24 series as a whole selling better than the S23 line, but the opposite for the foldables. For what it’s worth, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 specifically did sell better than the Fold5 based on these numbers.
It was just last month that we saw a report claiming that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 will be seeing changes to the way its S-Pen worked in the name of keeping it thin. This more recent report has shaken the earlier claims, but we won’t really know for sure until later in the year, when the foldables get officially unveiled.
