Apple is probably the only smartphone maker to still sell flagship-tier smartphones with 60Hz displays, but that could be changing soon with the iPhone 17. According to a Chinese leakster on Weibo, the tech giant will supposedly arm its next lineup with ProMotion displays, even the vanilla models.
In case you are not familiar with it, “ProMotion” is just what the company calls its high refresh rate screens. Up until now, the 120Hz displays have been limited to its Pro series while the base iPhone models are slumped with an outdated 60Hz refresh rate.
That being said, the report does not specify the exact refresh rate for the vanilla iPhones, so a 90Hz refresh rate for the lower-end models wouldn’t be out of the question if Apple is intent on keeping the 120Hz displays exclusive to the Pro lineup.
Other rumours for this year’s upcoming iPhone 17 a new 2nm chipset which will be limited to the Pro and Pro Max models. Apparently, another piece of hardware that will remain exclusive to the Pro series is the telephoto camera, while the long-awaited variable aperture lens is said to be skipping the 17 and will only make an appearance on the iPhone 18.
