Qualcomm usually announces its new flagship mobile chipset closer to the end of the year. For the past two years, this has been the tail end of October. Though a leakster has claimed that the next mobile flagship chipset by the company may see an earlier unveiling, though it’s unclear to what sort of extent it will be earlier by.
As Digital Chat Station claims on Chinese social media Weibo, development of the successor to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite is in a pretty advanced development state. This may translate to the aforementioned earlier announcement date, but as mentioned, no specifics were provided on that front. This could mean anywhere between a few weeks earlier to, as GSMArena claims, as early as the middle of the year.
Other bits on this next Qualcomm flagship chipset includes the model number of SM8850, and that it’s made using TSMC’s 3nm process. Also claimed by the leakster is that the “GPU performance will be significantly improved”, per machine translation.
This is expected from the annual generational improvement, but percentage figures were provided. Not in this specific post, at least. Earlier, the leakster has claimed that the performance improvement would be “at least 20%”. That being the case, Android Police cites Korean outlet KIPOST as claiming that prices of the chip may rise by about the same amount as well.
