Black Myth Wukong has been a critical success for its creator and studio, Game Science, and even stoked a wave of national pride for its Chinese fan base. Recently, a “clone” of the game made its way on to Nintendo eShop and suffice it to say, it’s been less than well-received by the Chinese internet.
Wukong Sun: Black Legend, is the name of the knock-off title, and it’s very clearly and obviously a title made to capitalise on the popularity of Black Myth’s acclaim. The game launched today and unlike Game Science’s IP, it’s not exactly a carbon copy. Instead of adopting the Souls-like formula, the game is a 2D platformer.
Like Black Myth, Wukong Sun: Black Legend is based on the 16th century novel, Journey to the West, and puts players in the shoes of the Monkey King, Sun Wukong. On a related note, this isn’t the only time a game inspired by a major title has made it on to the Nintendo eShop in the past.
Another title called The Last Hope: Dead Zone Survival, which was intended to be a copy of The Last Of Us, was also listed on the platform but was ultimately removed at a later date.
